By Frank Parlato

The role of Erie County Judge Michael Pietruszka in the New York State Attorney General’s case against political strategist G. Steven Pigeon was examined in court this week following a Sept. 8 story in Artvoice.

Pigeon was indicted on June 28, charged with bribing former New York State Supreme Court Justice John A. Michalek and extorting attorney Edward Betz.

Pigeon’s attorney, Paul Cambria, cited Artvoice when he filed an affidavit on Sept. 15 and made oral arguments before State Supreme Court Justice Donald Cerio on Monday, Sept. 26.

The Great NIMBY’s Want West River All to Themselves

September 29, 2016 James Hufnagel 24

Opposition to Grand Island bike path heats up as Public Meeting to be held next week

A group of NIMBY (Not In My Backyard) -inspired residents on Grand Island appear to be gaining momentum in their efforts to halt New York State Parks’ plans to convert the virtually unused West River Parkway into a beautiful bike path along miles of the glorious west branch of the world famous Niagara River.

These residents, who, to a man and woman, live on West River Road, claim they object to the state’s proposed bike path for various reasons such as safety and the urgent need to keep two parallel roads.

Former Mayor, Niagara Falls

As you read this, the mayor, the city administrator, the city’s department heads and the city’s finance office are working on the 2017 budget.

Anyone who is familiar with the 2013 New York State Comptroller’s audit of our city’s budget or the city’s own third-party audit of the 2015 budget or who has read the Niagara Falls City Council Financial Advisory Panel report has to be concerned.

Our revenues have not kept pace with the annual increase in city spending. It’s well understood by a few. Even with the use of casino revenues, the city will not be able to meet its financial obligations by the year 2019-2020. As was stated in the recent report by Fitch Ratings, Inc., “Fitch believes the city’s financial resilience to be limited due to the importance of casino gambling transfers, over which it has virtually no control.”

The banner headline at the top of the LPCiminelli website proclaims, “Integrity and Ingenuity at Work”

That integrity has been called into question as shock waves from the federal indictments handed down last week accusing Louis Ciminelli, two of his executive staffers and several close Cuomo aides of felony charges, including bribery and bid-rigging, reverberated across the state, including Niagara Falls, where the L.P. Ciminelli Development Company has maintained a major presence for nearly two decades.

September 29, 2016 Tony Farina 1

The Northpointe Council’s methadone clinic in Niagara Falls, which only a few short months ago was on track to move to a Sixth Street site that some residents were resisting, will remain at its current location at the Trott Access Center on 11th Street thanks to bipartisan efforts of several elected and officials.

It was last June at the ribbon cutting for the opening of the Golisano Center for Community Health at Memorial Hospital that Democratic legislators Dennis Virtuoso, Jason Zona and Mark Grozio from Niagara Falls began talking to the county’s director of mental health, Laura Keleman, about finding a way to keep the Northpointe clinic at its current location and not moving it to Sixth St. where opposition was brewing.

Progressive, Heal Thyself

By Jim Ostrowski

Once again, race riots plague America, this time in Charlotte, a relatively prosperous and quiet city in North Carolina.  Not a good sign.  What can I say that hasn’t already been said?  Volumes.

My main work as a writer at this point is to discover, analyze and expose the various mindsets that have us trapped in problems, unable to grasp some very obvious and sensible solutions to those problems.  I spent forty years trying to change things through the political process and by writing hundreds of articles that, in my opinion, diagnosed problems and proposed workable solutions.  The response, not only to my modest efforts but to the whole liberty movement, was a yawn.  People did not listen.  They did not want to hear it.
