On July 24th, 2020, at 4:56pm, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a possible boating accident. An occupant of a mid- size anchored vessel, just east of Gratwick Park jumped off the vessel into the Niagara River for a swim.

The male subject was quickly overtaken by the fast moving current and went under the water for a short time. The male subject was found moments later by the operator of the vessel. The male subject was transported to DeGraff Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The name of the male is being withheld at this time until the family can be notified. The investigation is continuing by the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.
