A dog in North Tonawanda is lucky to be alive after being nearly starved to death by its owners.

Members of the North Tonawanda Police Department and the Dog Control Officer were made aware of the situation due to an anonymous complaint.

The dog is a female and has badly broken teeth. Animal control officers say she was likely kept in a cage all the time and that the broken teeth resulted from her trying to get out of the cage.

The dog was also starved as can be seen from the photographs provided.

The owners of the dog have been charged with animal cruelty and officers say they will not be able to get the dog back.

Despite all the abuse the dog went through, officers say she was still wagging her tail. She will need extensive medical care and after that will be up for adoption and in need of a loving home.
