Neither candidate for Niagara County Court Judge will have total clarity after election results are finalized after election night as more than 11,000 absentee ballots have to be counted starting on July 1st. According to the Niagara County Board of Elections, the majority of these ballots will be counted by hand. This means that attorneys from both campaigns will oversee the process with it likely taking multiple days to complete.

As of election night, Caroline Wojtaszek leads in total votes, the Democratic line, Republican line, Independence Party line, Green Party line, and SAM line.

Benedict, on the other hand, is leading on the Conservative, Libertarian and Working Family lines.

Traditionally, absentee ballots come in proportionate to the election day numbers. However, this is the first election where there has been expanded absentee voting due to the COVID-19.

After more than 15,000 people in Niagara County voted in the judicial election on Primary Day, it is expected for the total number of votes cast to be around 27,500 after absentees are counted. This would be the best turnout in a primary election for a county court judicial race ever.

Caroline Wojtaszek told the Reporter, “As the only life-long Democrat in this race, I am deeply appreciative of the OVERWHELMING support by the democratic electorate in Niagara County last night. I want to THANK everyone who continues to support me in this campaign. This has been a very different race taking place during very uncertain times. My focus now is making sure EVERY VOTE gets counted and moving on from there once we have final results.”

Benedict posted a message to supporters on his Facebook late Tuesday night, stating, “to my family, friends, campaign volunteers and all the people I have met along the way, thank you for your support and encouragement! This process has only reinforced my belief that Niagara County is a great place to live, work, and raise our family.”
