The time to collect petitions throughout New York State ended this week and numbers collected by candidates are starting to leak out. Current Niagara County District Attorney, and candidate for County Court Judge, Caroline Wojtaszek announced on Facebook that her campaign collected 3,815 petition signatures. The entire statement released by the campaign is below:

“THANK YOU to all 3,815 residents throughout Niagara County who took the time to sign petitions for this campaign as well as the countless volunteers who passed petitions for the last several weeks. I am proud that this campaign has garnered support across all party lines because being a judge has nothing to do with political affiliation.”

The number of petition signatures required for candidates was reduced by Governor Cuomo and the New York State Board of Elections to 30% of the prior statutory requirement. Essentially, this means that the number of signatures required by each candidate for any party line was reduced by 70%.

Caroline Wojtaszek also addressed the COVID-19 health pandemic in her statement.

“We find ourselves at a point where there are more important things than political races and elections,” said Wojtaszek. :Now more than ever is a time when we must look out for one another and take care of our families. Know that my thoughts and prayers are with all of you through these trying and uncertain times.”
