Niagara Falls Police received a phone complaint around 1050 hours on Friday, March 5th, 2021, detailing a fraudulent vehicle purchase.
According to the complainant, he met the vehicle owner at Tops on Portage Road on February 26th, 2021, at which time he paid $3,000 cash and received a title for a 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer. The complainant also received the vehicle and keys at this time.
Upon going to the DMV to register the car, the complainant was told the vehicle owner had requested a new title and that the one he had was not valid. The complainant was unable to immediately contact the vehicle owner and upon setting a meeting place to exchange the new title he did not show up.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
