THE CRIME NF: Resident Falls Victim to Fake Facebook Messenger Scam

Niagara Falls Police received a report around 1600 hours on Wednesday, March 17th, 2021, of fraud. According to the complainant, he received a message on Facebook messenger from a female who advised him of a way to “turn his money into more money.” The complainant stated that he was advised to purchase $100 in Google Play cards and provide the transaction information to the woman. The complainant did this and was then told there was an additional $200 fee that required the purchase of more cards, which he did and provided the information for those to the woman as well. The complainant stated that at the time of this report there has not been any money returned to him.
