Steady Progress on Sal Maglie Stadium $1.67 Million Renovation Project

Installation of artificial turf and addition of a batting cage and new bullpens are some of the improvements being made to Sal Maglie Stadium on Hyde Park Blvd. in Niagara Falls. Sal Maglie was a Niagara Falls native who pitched for Major League Baseball teams including the Yankees, Brooklyn Dodgers, and the New York Giants when they won the 1954 World Series.

According to Wikipedia, “During the 1970s, Maglie was employed by a wholesale liquor distributor as a salesman. Later in the decade, he worked for the Niagara Falls Convention Bureau as their membership coordinator. He retired in 1979. A lover of Italian food, Maglie’s favorite restaurant in Niagara Falls was the Como Restaurant, where he was a frequent customer. Golf was a hobby of his in retirement, and he would sign autographs at card shows and pitch in old-timers’ games.
