Schools Throughout Niagara County Closed Due to Concerns over Coronavirus Spread

County Chair Becky Wydysh announced at a special press conference on Sunday, March 16th, 2020, that Niagara County would enter a state of emergency effective at 2:00pm of that afternoon.

As a result, Legislator Wydysh stated that all thirteen superintendents in Niagara County agreed to suspect school for students effective March 16th, 2020.

Although there are no confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Niagara County, health officials believe that will inevitably change in the near future. In the meantime, Public Health Director Daniel Stapleton has stated that this time off from school is not meant for playdates, going to the mall, and etc., but rather to stay home and utilize social distancing to avoid public spreading of COVID-19.

There is currently no date that student are expected to return. However, districts are hopeful that it will be April 20th, 2020.
