Niagara Falls held its first annual Juneteenth ceremony on Friday, June 19th, 2020, celebrating the anniversary of slavery ending in the United States.
Mayor Robert M. Restaino, along with Ken Hamilton, Jacob Fleming, Samika Sullivan, Saladin Allah, Rev. Lomax Barnes, took part in the ceremony.
Mayor Restaino started his portion of the ceremony by reciting the entire emancipation proclamation and ended with encouraging people to vote.
The keynote speaker, Saladin Allah, gave an impassioned speech about race and making a difference in the community.
