On Monday, June 8th, 2020, the Little Bakery in Niagara Falls was burglarized. The individual, or individuals, responsible caused tens of thousands of dollars worth of damage along with stealing equipment.

Did that stop the Little Bakery from holding a free food giveaway that same day? No, it did not. Hundreds of Niagara Falls residents showed up and were fed a full meal including pizza, chips, cookies, and drinks.

The Niagara County community, from Niagara Falls and beyond, rallied around owners Jason Conte and Samantha Bassett. Within a few hours of the burglary being publicized, a Go-Fund-Me page was set up. Not long after, more than $10,000 had been raised. By the following day, more than $30,000.

Unbeknownst to Jason and Samantha, Niagara County Sheriff Michael Filicetti, Niagara Falls Police Chief Tom Licata, District Attorney Caroline Wojtaszek, and representatives from more than ten law enforcement agencies throughout the area arrived at the Little Bakery Wednesday afternoon.

You could see the shock on their faces as law enforcement official after law enforcement official presented them with a monetary donation collected from members of their municipality.

The group then assembled for a group photo before dispersing. The appreciation felt by Jason and Samantha was clearly felt as hugs were given throughout the group.

As of the time of this article, more than $45,000 has been raised for the Little Bakery between the Go-Fund-Me page and in-person contributions. A link to the Go-Fund-Me page can be found here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/rebuild-the-little-bakery-nf?utm_source=facebook.

Rallying around the Little Bakery as this community has is a true testament to the good deeds accomplished by Jason and Samantha since opening. Although Niagara Falls is known for being home to a wonder of the world, today it is being recognized for being the city of good neighbors.
