Employees of the Niagara County Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office in Lockport continued their tradition of making the holidays special for a family they adopt from the Salvation Army.
“Several years ago, the Lockport DMV staff decided that rather than all pitch in for a holiday party or exchange small gifts, they would all donate to helping buy presents for a family in need,” said Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski. “So, they contribute and one staff members shops online for the gifts. Other staff members use their lunches and breaks to wrap the gifts.
“I have always been so touched by their generosity and thoughtfulness,” said Jastrzemski. “And then I learned that several staff members remembered their families needing help at the holidays when they were kids and this was their way to pay it forward. That truly is the spirit of season.”
