As Expected, City Council Approves Tow Truck Fee Increase

Unanimous vote sends registration fee to be on the NFPD’s Tow List from $150 per year to $1,000; adds additional $25 fee per tow paid to the city


At a meeting held on April 25th, the Niagara Falls City Council voted 5-0 in favor of increasing the fee tow trucks pay to be on the Niagara Falls Police Department’s official tow list’ from $150 per year to $1,000.

Niagara Falls Police Chief DalPorto, in a prepared statement prior to the vote, voiced his support for the increase. In particular, Chief DalPorto stated that the increased revenue would be a help to the city.

    OMG—talk about driving (no pun intended) people out of business. 1K/yr to tow + 25/car. real smart. was there ANY discussion as to how many companies have these city contracts, whether they were 1 truck or multiple truck owners, whether this will decrease competition to just 3 or 4 large companies, etc? & what about the 1 person tow company who has invested big bucks in a new tow truck? where does this leave them? i could have seen a 300/yr fee, slowly increasing over a specified period, but to slap tow companies w/a HUGE increase is total insanity. tell me, how does this help the city? jsmh
