During a conference with reporters on Monday, August 10th, 2020, Governor Andrew Cuomo said he “wouldn’t do an investigation” into the nursing home deaths throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
“I wouldn’t do an investigation whether or not it’s political,” said Cuomo. “Everybody can make that decision for themselves. I think you’d have to be blind to realize it’s not political.”
New York’s COVID-19 death toll in nursing homes, which is already among the nation’s highest, could actually be a major undercount because it only counts residents who died on nursing home property and not those who died after being transported to hospitals.
