Flag raising takes place outside McDonalds in the City Market.

Today a flag raising took place at the City Market in Niagara Falls outside of McDonalds.

The event came about after McDonalds reached out to Niagara Falls City Councilman Ken Tompkins to help with the Memorial Day Parade.

“They always pitch in with specials and giving us free ice for the water we give out,” said Councilman Tompkins. “They felt it was important to do a flag raising out front to honor those that passed on this holiday of remembrance.”

Councilman Tompkins reached out to the American Legion 1664 Cadille Post in the City Market, as well as Ken Hamilton, to assist in putting everything together.

“They took the ball and ran with it,” noted Councilman Tompkins. “This is a city filled with people proud of our veterans and I was proud and honored to be a small part of this.”

The American flag was raised to half mast around 9:00am this morning.
