An aide for State Senator Robert Ortt resigned on Monday after a video surfaced on social media showing the staffer using racial slurs.

According to the video, Robert Welch used the “n” word when referring to an African American teenager.

According to social media, the dispute was wholly over a teenager knocking over a lawn sign while jumping over it.

Welch, in a fit of rage, began yelling at the group using profanities and racial slurs. Welch then jumped into a vehicle and continued to chase the kids while shouting similar inappropriate phrases. However, Welch was not alone and was joined by a female who was also shouting expletives and racial slurs.

It was quickly discovered that the female was an employee of the North Tonawanda City School District and calls started to be made for her termination.

The North Tonawanda City School District released a statement on Friday, June 19th, stating, “as many in the community are aware, there was a well-publicized incident on June 14th involving a dispute between two adults and some children who are students the North Tonawanda City School District. It has been accurately reported that one of the adults is a District employee. The District had conducted an investigation into the incident and, based on its conclusions, has decided to terminate the employment of the employee, effective today. Consistent with its practice not to discuss the details of personnel decisions, the District will not be commenting further about the incident.”

As of June 20th, 2020, the North Tonawanda Police Department have not charged either individual with a crime.
