-Niagara Falls Police arrested a man early Wednesday, July 24th, 2019, after he jumped out of his vehicle attempting to flee police. According to reports, the SUV kept rolling and nearly struck pedestrians after he jumped out. An officer tried to pull over the SUV after the driver illegally passed a vehicle and ran a red light at Pine Avenue and 10th Street around 12:15 a.m.. The driver jumped out of the SUV on Sixth Street and started running through backyards. The SUV did come to a stop but only after slowing down enough for an officer to jump inside and put it into park. The driver was identified via a wallet that was left behind in the vehicle.
-Niagara Falls Police responded to 528 Ferry Avenue, a corner store, in the afternoon hours of Wednesday, July 24th, 2019, after receiving reports of an attempted armed robbery. According to reports, an employee was injured by the armed gunman who entered the store and held the worker at gunpoint as he demanded money. The employee told police he was able to knock the gun from the robber’s hands at which point the two men started to fight. The employee further told police that he was able to hit the robber with a metal cyclinder causing injury. However, the robber was able to throw the employee to the floor causing a laceration on his head. The man then picked up the gun and ran from the scene unsuccessful in his attempt to rob the store.
-Niagara Falls Police responded to the 600 block of Rainbow Boulevard in the evening hours of Thursday, July 25th, 2019, after reports of a drunk man inside of a garbage can.
-Police responded to the Fashion Outlet Mall in the afternoon hours of Thursday, July 25th, 2019, after reports of an alteraction that left two tourists from Canada seriously injuried. According to eyewitness accounts, the aggressors physically assaulted the tourists after for what they described as “no apparent reason.” The victims were transported to the hospital where they were receiving treatment. The two aggressors were charged and arraigned in Town of Niagara Court.
-Niagara Falls Police responded to the 1000 block of Center Avenue in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 27th, 2019, after reports of a shooting. According to reports, when police arrived they discovered a man with serious injuries. Police later confirmed that 58-year-old Roderick Haslip, of Niagara Falls, died from his injuries after being shot in his van on 13th and Grove Avenue. He tried to drive away but only made it two blocks and died at the scene. Police are continuing to investigate the incident and have made no arrests as of the date of this publication.
-Niagara Falls Police responded to the 1800 block of Linwood Avenue in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 28th, 2019, after receiving a 911 call from a homeowner who said a neighbor was controlling her lights from his house. Upon further investigation, police determined this to be meritless.
