“The youth is our future,” responded Niagara Falls City Councilman Ezra Scott when asked what the driving force is behind building a new community center in Downtown Niagara Falls.

The New Niagara Falls Community Center, a group established to develop a safe space for youth and families to use and occupy, is having a public meeting on February 8th, 2018. The purpose of the meeting is for the Board of Directors to share the organization’s progress on opening the community center.

The Board of Directors includes community leaders such as Rosalind Scott, Denise Easterling, Kartika Carr, Kayla Briggs, Kim Carter, Ivan Carmichael, Pastor Tim Brown, Rhonda Bivens-Talle, Charles Packer, and Darlene Brewer.

A supporter of the group, Councilman Scott stated, “being able to give these young kids goals and encourage them to stay on the right track is instrumental in building a stronger community.”

Kartika Carr, a member of the Board, said that they are, “looking at options that include both youth and adult sports, where community events can be held, and want to incorporate classes focusing on life skills and other educational topics.”

The meeting is from 6:00–8:00pm at 1334 Calumet Avenue in Niagara Falls.
