UAW to Push Destino Bid at Lockport Event

October 14, 2014

United Auto Workers Local 686, based in Lockport and representing nearly 1,300 members, will hold a press conference on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 6 p. m. at the union hall, 524 Walnut St., to state why they are behind the State Senate candidacy of Democrat Johnny Destino.

“We’ve invited other unions in the area to join us on Thursday for this important event,” said Bill Nye, a long-time member of Local 686.

Destino, a Niagara Falls school board member who is running to replace retiring State Sen. George Maziarz in the 62nd District which includes Lockport, will be the featured guest at the press conference, said Nye.

“We’re hoping for a big turnout because this is a very important election for the working families of Lockport and the entire region,” said Nye.

Destino has strong labor support in his race against North Tonawanda Mayor Robert Ortt, a Republican.
