The Need for Unity of All Needed to Rebuild Niagara Falls

March 5, 2026

By Tony Farina

We have written a lot about what it would take to help Niagara Falls, N.Y., recapture the glory of past years with jobs that exist year-round with steady pay and career opportunities beyond the tourist trade. We’re talking about industries that operate all year, not just during tourist months. It also means a stable tax base to support police, fire, schools, and public services.

Hydropower still exists, meaning new industries can grow here, such as technology facilities, advanced manufacturing, logistics, and clean energy projects, including cooperation between National Grid and the state working together as part of the equation. These industries would operate all year and provide stronger wages.

So the question is, how do we get there? How can Niagara Falls make a better city for all, help survive on more than just the tourist trade, and establish a city that residents and visitors would enjoy all year long?

We’ve written about the need to incentivize industries to locate in Niagara Falls and provide year-round opportunities for residents to earn the wages needed to prosper. With that being said, how does the city move in that direction?

Let’s begin with the proverb there is strength in unity highlighting that individuals working together towards a common goal are more powerful, effective, and resilient than working alone. That principle of unity emphasizes that solidarity, cooperation, and shared, diverse perspectives create superior outcomes and overcome challenges.

There are indeed many challenges but the way forward must involve unity to attain. The important message here is that Niagara Falls cannot solve these challenges alone. The state, local government, labor groups, businesses, and residents must work together. Everyone has a role. The state controls energy policy, funding programs, and incentives. The city manages land use and services. Labor represents the workforce. Businesses create jobs. Residents support the community.

Too often, these groups work separately. What Niagara Falls needs is one shared plan. New York State policy leaders, labor organizations, and the city must work in concert to build a year-round economy. That means aligning energy programs, workforce training, infrastructure investment, and economic incentives toward the same goal.

Niagara Falls is not just another city. It is known around the world. Helping the city succeed helps all of New York State. A stronger local economy means more jobs, more tax revenue, and a healthier region.

The future of Niagara Falls depends on unity. Tourism will always matter, but industry and year-round jobs must return in modern forms. When the state, labor, and the city work together with one strategy, progress becomes possible. The push forward, relying on the old proverb, is clear. Now is the time for unity, for everyone to work together and act.

Folks, the time for unity of purpose is now. It is never too late to take action and bring the parties, and especially the political parties, together to rebuild the Falls. Let’s hope people pay attention and help drive the unity goal.
