Free Trash Hauling Still Available to Modern Residents Better Act Fast However

July 22, 2014

A little known service of the DPW, one that has been in existence for more than 20 years, permits residents of Niagara Falls to get rid of big trash anytime for free by hauling it, if the resident will truck it himself, to Modern Disposal in Lewiston.

A resident of the Falls can apply at the DPW offices on New Road and get a trash dumping permit for up to three pickup truck loads which they can then use at Modern at no cost to the homeowner.

For those who need to remove trash and have access to a pickup truck, they can dispose of their big items any time.

To date, despite the massive decrease in garbage services scheduled under the new Dyster trash ordinance, the free dumping at Modern for city residents is still in effect.

Sources say Dyster has plans to limit this as he has done with all trash removal in the city.

Presently, each permit allows three dumps at Modern.  As of now residents may get an additional permit for "three-dumps" after the first one is used.

The program is for property owners only. Construction companies do not qualify for the free permit.  Contact the Niagara Falls DPW for information.  The number is 716-286-4940. Ask for Brook D'Angelo.
