The International Olympics Committee (IOC) announced on Monday, March 23rd, 2020, that the Olympic games scheduled for this summer are being postponed to 2021. The Committee cited concerns for public health and safety amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fortunately for athletes, however, the IOC stated in a letter to athletes that total cancellation of the Olympic games is not an option. The announcement by the IOC comes a day after two countries, Canada and Australia, announced that they would not send athletes to the games if they were held this year.
