THE CRIME NF: Woman Falls Victim to Scam and Loses $2,000

Niagara Falls Police received a report around 2000 hours on Wednesday, March 10th, 2021, of an investigation.

According to police, the complainant stated that she received an email from an unknown party who stated he was a representative of Amazon. The complainant further stated the email said he owed the company $120 and provided a link to make the payment.

Upon clicking the link, the complainant said she accidentally deposited $1,000.00. Complainant stated that she contacted an unknown male party whose phone number was provided in the email. She was advised by someone on the phone that in order to do so she must purchase two $500.00 Best Buy gift cards and provide the numbers ad code on the cards to him.

Complainant stated that she then purchased the gift cards at Walgreens using her debit card to pay for them and provided the information as requested. However, she did not receive her $1,000 payment back.

Victim states it was at this point she believed she was involved in a scam. No further information is available at this time.
