MEMORIAL WELCOMES NEW SURGEON

Bala Thatigotla, M.D., M.R.C.S. -- a general, gastrointestinal and advanced laparoscopic surgeon -- will be joining the medical staff at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center effective Aug. 1.

Dr. Bala, as he prefers to be called, recently completed a fellowship in one of the nation's top programs -- the Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery/Bariatric Surgery program at the prestigious Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, Tenn. In a current survey of nearly 5,000 U.S. hospitals evaluated by U.S. News & World Report, Vanderbilt is ranked in the top 1 percent in nearly a dozen surgical and adult-care specialties, and is the 14th-highest ranked medical center overall in that publication's Best Hospitals edition.

A graduate of Sri Venketeswara Medical College, South India, Dr. Bala received surgical training at Trinidad's Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (teaching hospital of The University of West Indies). After completing advanced training in General Surgery, he received certification from The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, U.K.

He completed his General Surgical residency at the Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center/Albert Einstein School of Medicine, New York, and holds board certification in General Surgery from the American Board of Surgery and Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, U.K.
