At such a difficult time for people throughout our community, Niagara County Legislator Jesse Gooch, along with Mat Mosher, Gail Connery, and our town Constable Bob Connery, are stepping up to provide seniors a smile, a delicious dinner, and something to look forward to. For the second time in two weeks, Legislator Gooch and other public officials in Wheatfield worked alongside J&L BBQ to provide dinners for seniors.

“During this crisis I wanted to find a way to help out some of our seniors,” said Legislator Gooch. “I contacted a local food truck J&L BBQ and worked with them to create five dollar meals with a drive-thru option at the Wheatfield Town Hall.”

Legislator Gooch said he anticipates doing events such has these throughout the month of April.

“For the last two weeks we were able to do a barbecue chicken dinner and a rib dinner,” said Gooch. “Even though this is something small, it gives the senior something to look forward to and save some a trip from the grocery store for a night.  We even had a local farmer donate apples for me to put in every meal! It’s nice to see how the community is coming together during our darkest of times.

The outreach effort organized by Legislator Gooch provided a positive and safe environment for seniors during this time of home confinement. For many, the meal meant more than just good food.

“Thank you to Legislator Jesse Gooch and Mr. Mosher, Town Prosecutor, for giving the Senior Citizens of Wheatfield the opportunity to have a fine rib dinner tonight,” wrote Rebecca Anne on Facebook. “It’s a wonderful gesture from all the Town officials during this difficult and terrible time.”
