The Black Lives Matter mural on Main Street, under the railroad bridge, in Niagara Falls was designed by artists Ashley Kay and Tyshaun Tyson.

The mural is the result of an ongoing project headed by the Niagara Falls National Heritage Area with grant funding provided by the New York State Health Foundation. The organization stated the idea for the Black Lives Matter mural grew from a worldwide call to action for justice for George Floyd and all Black lives lost due to police brutality.

“Our team was inspired by the strength of so many who are making their voices heard and standing up to demand change,” said the Niagara Falls National Heritage Area, “and we believe that art can and does create change.”

Artists Tyshaun and Ashley collaborated on the design for and it came to fruition in a matter of days.

Eight more murals will be painted throughout the summer. The application process for artists is now open and more information, including how to apply, can be found here: https://bit.ly/37neNNE.
