IHOP to Offer Free Pancakes to Raise Money for Children's Hospitals

For the ninth straight year, the International House of Pancakes (IHOP) invites the public to come in for a free short-stack of buttermilk pancakes today (March 4) in celebration of the day before Lent, known also as Shrove Tuesday; Mardi Gras Tuesday or, for those in the pancake business, "National Pancake Day."

The national chain hopes to raise $3 million for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and Shriners Hospitals for Children.

IHOP has raised more than $13 million in the United States during the last eight years from this event.

More than 1,500 IHOP restaurants across the U. S. will be participating in 15 hours of buttermilk pancake giveaways. The feeding stops at 10 pm.

In exchange for the free pancakes, customers are encouraged, but not required, to leave a voluntary donation for the hospitals.

While the short-stacks will be free, customers are also invited to sample one of the additional 64 signature made-to-order breakfast options on the menu, as well as a range of meals under 600 calories, available at the normal, "affordable" IHOP prices.

International House of Pancakes, LLC, is a subsidiary of DineEquity, Inc.
