Hang the Jury and Nullify Bad Law

July 14, 2016 Frank Parlato 32
Benjamin Franklin said that jury nullification is “better than law, it ought to be law, and will always be law wherever justice prevails.”
Benjamin Franklin said that jury nullification is “better than law, it ought to be law, and will always be law wherever justice prevails.”

As everyone knows, there is often a difference between “the law” and justice.

After all laws are made by elected officials under the influence of lobbyists and their desire to enrich themselves, and get reelected.

Anyone who thinks the typical congressman, senator, assemblyman or even local councilman is a beacon of wisdom and justice and cares first and foremost about the future of the nation is just a darn fool.

The proof is the sad shape of the state of this country with its financial recklessness, its $17 trillion debt, it’s massive incarceration rates, it’s growing curtailment of liberties. The government’s self-righteous and petty bossism over the people. The inversion from government fearing the people to the people fearing the government. read more

Falls Hierarchy At Odds With Outside Assessments Of Falls Sorry Condition

April 7, 2016 Mike Hudson 29

Gov. Andrew Cuomo [center] promised in 2013 a new Niagara. It was tied in part to the tipping point Hamister hotel which has not been built largely because Cuomo's campaign contributor and developer Mark Hamister [left] does not have the financing to build it. Hamister has inflated the price of the proposed hotel by 100 percent in order to falsely qualify for more taxpayer funding. The new Niagara is much like the old Niagara.

There are two sides to every story, so they say, and if you want to hear the side that completely goes against the grim portrayals of Niagara Falls that regularly appear in the national media or the statistically based rankings that show the city to be at the top of the heap when it comes to crime, taxes, poverty, heart attack deaths and many other bad things, you need look no further than the pronouncements of our elected and appointed officials, who get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, it seems, to say that everything’s OK here. read more

Chiropractors Are Revolutionizing The Way We Think About Wellness

When you’re tired of being sick, go see Dr. Mark Del Monte.
When you’re tired of being sick, go see Dr. Mark Del Monte.

Sometimes we want the quick fix – the feel better now but pay later approach that has characterized much of modern medicine and led to a culture of over-drugging patients that often exacerbates, prolongs, and compounds problems.

Those who insist that there is a better way are often seen as rebels, trouble makers, round pegs in square holes – who dare to question the most respected and moneyed profession of our day. They insist that the field of medicine is entirely wrong and that we should instead treat the underlying cause of problems rather than simply treating symptoms. read more

A Modest Suggestion for Change of Emblem for the National Security Agency

At the Niagara Falls Reporter, we seek to serve the interest of the people. And, as we reviewed our story, A Good American, this week, it occurred to us that we could serve both the people, and the government which purportedly is in existence to serve them, by offering a revised emblem [or logo] for the National Security Agency, known also as the NSA.

Logos, as readers know, are important symbols which help identify an organization’s purpose and build brand recognition.

For years the NSA was assumed to be an intelligence organization of the United States government, responsible for global monitoring, collection, and processing of information and data for foreign intelligence and counterintelligence purposes. We have lately seen that the NSA has also become responsible for monitoring US citizens with an intrepidity that Orwell only dreamed of. read more

Tuesday 9:47am: Hi baby, you have to listen to me carefully—I’m on a plane that’s been hijacked. I’m on the plane; I’m calling from the plane. I want to tell you I love you and tell my children that I love them very much, and I’m so sorry babe. I don’t know what to say—there are three guys and they’ve hijacked the plane. I’m trying to be calm but it’s turned around and I’ve heard there are planes that have flown into the World Trade Center. I hope to be able to see your face again, baby. I love you. Goodbye… read more

CNSNEWS: The Media’s Softness for Sanders and Socialism

February 10, 2016 30

By L. Brent Bozell III and Tim Graham | February 10, 2016 | 4:54 AM EST Democratic presidential candidate, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., smiles and waves to the crowd at his primary night rally Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, in Concord, N.H. (AP Photo/J. David Ake)

At the start of the Democratic presidential race, the media viewed the contest as a cakewalk. The compassionate and gloriously wonky Hillary Clinton faced no one who could be viewed as her equal. Game over. When Sen. Bernie Sanders made noises about running against her, nobody thought he could be the actual Democratic nominee. He was old, he was cranky, and he wasn’t even a Democrat.

The conventional media wisdom had it that Sanders would be a healthy deterrent to the Clinton tendency to crawl toward the corporatist middle. On NPR, Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne saw it as positive: “Let’s list two names who we don’t get to talk about, Eugene Debs and Norman Thomas. This is the most serious socialist candidacy for president since they ran. But Bernie Sanders has a long list of particulars that he wants to put on the table, and I think by shifting the campaigns to economics, he will generally help Democrats.” read more

The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer building its house and laying up supplies for the winter. The Grasshopper thinks the Ant is a fool and laughs, dances and plays the summer away.

Heritage Foundation: U.S. Dropped from No. 6 in Economic Freedom to No. 11 under Obama

February 2, 2016 49

As reported in CNSNEWS.COM:

According to the 2016 Index of Economic Freedom, an annual publication by The Heritage Foundation, America’s economic freedom has fallen from the 6th freest economy in the world, when President Barack Obama took office, to 11th place in 2016.

America’s score in the index is related to rising government spending, subsidies, and bailouts. Somebody has to be forced to pay for it.

  • Government spending amounts to $29,867 per household in 2015.
  • The national debt is $125,000 for every tax-filing household in America—totaling more than $18 trillion.
  • The government takeover of health care is raising prices and disrupting markets.

As Anthony B. Kim,   writes for CNSNEWS.COM “Economic freedom is the foundation of U.S. economic strength, and economic strength is the foundation of America’s high living standards, military power, and status as a world leader. The perils of losing economic freedom are not fictional.” read more

CLOSING BARS EARLIER MAY IMPACT BUSINESS, DIMINISH FREEDOM LOCALLY ENJOYED

January 27, 2016 Frank Parlato 34

The issue of whether to roll back the bar closing time from 4 a. m. to 2 a. m. in Erie County is certainly a hot-button item right now.

The idea is a bad one – or, at best, hastily conceived.

Forget that this is a perfect example of an attempt by ‘big brother’ enthusiasts to impose their morality and an overreach, this is an attempt to enact a new regulation that would damage existing business and take away the choices people now have, whether they are late-working individuals or people coming from a neighboring community where the closings are earlier to enjoy some late night time with friends. read more

Skidmore: History unlearned becomes history repeated

January 27, 2016 30

An honest senator dared to speak out for a halt to foreign aid and foreign subversion that drained away the people’s money. He was scoffed as a reactionary.

By R.D. Skidmore, Prof.

When history becomes forgotten or is not taught then it becomes a history to be repeated. Such is the case over time.

“Once there was a Great Nation….” wrote Gary Rekstad for an historical abstraction; editing it further a summary is reproduced here for you to read and speculate which nations’ story is being told? read more
