According to a report by Fred Dicker in the New York Post -- the United Federation of Teachers and the New York State United Teachers have offered Attorney GeneralEric Schneiderman "preliminary encouragement" to run against New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo for the 2018 gubernatorial race should the governor run for a thirdterm.
The unions are unhappy with Cuomo over his initiatives to implement a more stringent system of teacher evaluations.
In addition to the UFT, others in favor of a possible Schneiderman challenge include far left Democrats aligned with New York City Mayor Bill deBlasio and State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, former Democratic gubernatorial candidate and Fordham University professor Zephyr Teachout - who got more than 30 percent of the voteagainst Cuomo in the Democratic primary and union activists with the socialist-leaning Working Families Party.
