Poetry Editor

January 06, 2015

In an attempt to encourage poetry and poets in our area, the Niagara Falls Reporter will consider submissions of short poems and publish those of merit in this column. Send poems to news1926@gmail.com.

Here is one I wrote after spending some time in Niagara Falls.

Scorpions

I tried to convert the scorpions
And teach them how to sing.
And teach them how to say their prayers
and teach them not to sting.

I tried to love the scorpions
and make them love the light
To show them that peace and truth
is better than to fight

And scorpions are quick to learn
the lessons that they should
they took me in as bosom friend
and changed from bad to good

and I drew close my new found friends
and embraced them every one
but scorpions must have their way
and boy did I get stung.
