Out of the mouth of babes

If we are going to have casinos why do we have to go through the Indians. Why don't we have them ourselves?

John Wilson, Niagara Falls

You're the Pinocchio

I just finished reading your article on Covanta Energy in the Niagara Falls Reporter. When you refer to words like Pinocchio in your article you should be looking in the Mirror. Why and to what advantage is there in spreading such lies. What ever happened to investigative journalism? What ever happened to following a lead and reporting on the truth? Your article is completely baseless of the facts and is only meant to distract from the truth in the name of political activism. It's no wonder the paper is free. You should apply at MSNBC.

The dumbest wonder of the world

Niagara Falls has eight million tourists annually, and a billion dollars a year in hydro power generation. It sits on an international border, across the river from a boom town with the same name. It is considered one of the world's wonders.

But the biggest wonder of all to me is that such a city with all these assets is broke.

John Pillsen

A tax free casino for the Brits?

Dear Sirs;

I have a modest proposal: Give the British a tax free casino in Niagara Falls.

In Niagara Falls, we don't believe in giving our own children the best our city has to offer, but prefer to hand that over to Albany, New York City and the children of the Seneca.

Why Seneca?

People think the Seneca Nation of Indians, who have a 50 acre tax free nation within our city, should have a monopoly on gaming since we done them wrong, centuries ago.

Back in the 18th century, the Senecas owned what is now Niagara Falls. They got the land by killing the Neuter Tribe who lived there peacefully for centuries.

Fifty years later, Europeans took the land away from Seneca, without killing them off.

So if we gave land back to Seneca and made them legally superior to Americans in Niagara Falls, what about England?

Sure, the British snatched plenty of land away from Indians (just like the Senecas did to other Indians), but, later, in an ugly episode, European settlers, who called themselves Americans, took 13 colonies away from the British including New York and the land where Niagara Falls sits.

No land can be given back to the Neuters because Seneca killed every one. But we gave land back to Seneca and made them legally superior to us and they became rich.

If we want to do the right thing, we need to give another 50 acres in downtown Niagara Falls to the British for tax free gaming while we continue to pay the highest taxes in the nation.

(Editor's note: Niagara County pays the second highest tax rate in the USA).

The British should be legally superior to Americans just like the Seneca. After all, Americans kicked the British out of this beautiful nation back in 1776 and their empire never recovered.

It is insult to our lofty desire to make foreigners legally superior to us that we do not help the British and give them a free casino.

Victoria Dobson

Niagara Falls Resident and mother of three sons who are born legally inferior to Seneca in this city!

We stole these 13 colonies from the British, writer suggests. Now we should give them something back: A tax free casino in Niagara Falls.
