Republicans Have Robust Slate; Democrats Weak in Village of Lewiston June Elections

May 06, 2014

From left to right: Village of Lewiston Republican Chairman, Rob Nichols, Trustee Dan Gibson, Mayor Terry Collesano, Trustee Victor Edyt, and Trustee Bruce Sutherland.

The Village of Lewiston Republican caucus was held last week and attended by approximately 100 people. There, the following candidates secured positions on the ballot for the June 17th election:

Village of Lewiston Mayor – Terry Collesano

Village of Trustee (4-year term) - Bruce Sutherland

Village of Trustee (4-year term) - Victor Edyt

Village of Trustee (2-year term) - Daniel Gibson

Mayor Collesano defeated Democrat challenger, Jamie Symmonds, by a 3 to 1 margin.

The three Republican trustees will run unopposed for the three spots on the Republican side since the two Democratic candidates were disqualified due to a legal mistake.

Jamie Symmonds challenged the mayor at the Republican caucus as a Democrat with Republican supporters. She lost 3 to 1. However, she still has the option to petition her way on to the ballot for the June 17th election.
