The Art of Beer Coming Soon

Mayor Dyster with pieces of art.

The publicly-funded "Art of Beer," founded by Mayor Dyster in 2007 and hosted by his wife, Rebecca, is the largest annual fund-raiser for the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center. The event is scheduled for Thursday Feb. 27, from 6 pm - 9 pm at the NACC at the corner of Pine Avenue and Portage Road. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door, and include the price of food and beer samples.

Every year since 2008, except last year, Mayor Dyster has secured $30,000 for the NACC. Last year, the Mayor's $30,000 annual gift of public money to the NACC was cut by the majority on the city council. This year, the new council majority voted to restore the money.

The Art of Beer dovetails pleasantly with Mayor Dyster's Niagara Tradition, Inc., a beer brewing supply store in Tonawanda he co-owns with his wife, Rebecca.

From 2010-2012, the NACC spent $11,748 of public money to host the event. The event raised $49,944. It is unknown how much Mayor Dyster's Niagara Tradition has made promoting its products at the event.
